Vernon Manor and the Mantua Civic Association invite all residents to a very important Mantua Community Re-Zoning Meeting on Thursday, June 2nd, from 6PM-7:30PM, at Grace Lutheran Church on 36th and Haverford. We will be meeting with Councilwoman Blackwell to finalize re-zoning in Mantua based on priorities that promote and protect single family homeownership, focus commercial zoning along highly trafficked corridors, and correct zoning for parks.

Please join us on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 6PM-7:30PM at Christ Community Baptist Church (1224 N. 41st Street), for presentations about summer safety, using 311 and recycling, summer youth employment, and reducing property taxes.

April Is Mantua Greenway Design Month!

The Mantua Greenway is a collaborative community revitalization effort initiated by residents in 2012 to transform Mantua Avenue between 34th and 40th Streets. Join residents and partners during the Mantua Greenway Design Month’s community events!

Design Month Kick-off & Open HouseTuesday, April 5, 5PM-7PM, Mantua Haverford Community Center (631 N 39th St): Community members can drop by to vote on design concepts for the Mantua Greenway and learn about the history and efforts of the Greenway Resident Advisory Committee.

Community Build DaySaturday, April 16, 10AM-2PM, Miles Mack Rec Center (36th and Aspen): Residents are invited to lend a hand to transform 37th Street and Mantua Avenue with a roadway mural, crosswalk paintings, and fence art!

Design Presentation & CelebrationTuesday, April 26, 6PM-8PM, Grace Lutheran Church (36th and Haverford): The community-driven developed design will be presented and next steps discussed.

Healthy Homes Workshop, March 30th!

Mt. Vernon Manor is partnering with the National Nursing Centers Consortium to host a Healthy Homes Workshop on March 30th, 2016, 8:30AM-9:30AM, at McMichael School, Room 109. The workshop is targeted to parents (but open to everyone!) and will provide information about how to keep a healthy home, specifically to prevent issues around child asthma and lead poisoning – very common in older houses! Block Captain/Leader Kick-off & Workshop!

Mt. Vernon Manor is excited to invite all block captains and leaders of Mantua, East Parkside, and Powelton Village, to a Block Captain/Leader Training on Saturday, March 5, 9AM-12PM, at the Mantua Haverford Community Center (631 N 39th St)!  A continental breakfast will be served.

Topics to be covered include: acquiring vacant lots, recycling rewards, using 311, resident & student relations, tax relief programs, and Spring Cleanup applications. Please feel free to extend this invitation to neighbors who are interested in becoming block leaders.
